Join us for our second COLA Capoeira Encounter, which will take place in Columbia, South Carolina in April 2027. Exact date and details to be confirmed.

This event will include workshops, a roda, batizado (Capoeira initiation where a student receives a controlled kick or controlled takedown for the first time from an experienced player) and entrega de cordas (belt giving ceremony).

April 22nd, 2027 will mark 50 years since the founding of Capoeira Angonal in São Gonçalo, Brazil.

As is the case every year, there will be a big event in São Gonçalo to celebrate the group's birthday. However, since this is a special year, we expect to have representatives of all of the branches of the school, including a contingent from Columbia, South Carolina. Exact date and details to be confirmed.

We invite all members to start saving so that we can represent the United States in the place where it all began!

Our first COLA Capoeira Encounter was a lot of fun!

It was wonderful to not only host our mestre, Mestre André, for his first trip outside of Brazil, but also to receive the support and presence of all of the Capoeira professionals of South Carolina: Mestre Queixo, Professora Linda, Instrutora Morango, and Instrutor Nego from Carioca Capoeira (Charleston); Contramestra Risadinha from Vereda Capoeira (Greenville, Spartanburg); and last but definitely not least,Treinel Brian and Treinel Noturno from Palmetto Capoeira from right here in Columbia.
